PROVEN Heartburn Cures: Exposed

The heartburn treatments could be classified in three categories – surgery, conventional medications and a holistic / natural approach.  Such interventions differ considerably in the working way, in various heartburn causative factors which are tackled, mainly in durability of results. For choosing an appropriate and an effective way for treating this condition of heartburn, it’s mandatory for one to get accurate information related to the underlying condition which would cause occurrence of heartburn. Choosing a suitable heartburn cures is very much important.

Heartburn is a common symptom of the condition gastro esophageal reflux (GERD), also popularly known to us as acid reflux. GERD would occur to a person when the stomach, lower esophageal sphincter (LES) gets weakened. While it is functioning properly, sphincter would allow water and food to pass by into stomach but would prevent highly acidic gastric things from splashing back and then coming into contact with esophagus. However, when muscle is found relaxed or weak, it would allow the stomach acid to flow down to esophagus. The condition of heartburn is quite a burning sensation which is usually experienced when refluxed acids would come in contact with lining of the esophagus lining.

The condition of heartburn and some other acid reflux symptoms are treated by using over the counter and prescription medications. The acid reflux drugs could be further divided into three – antacids, Proton pump inhibitors (PPI) and H2 blockers. The Antacids like Rolaids, Tums, Maalox and Mylanta are the drugs that are used for neutralizing the stomach acids by simply covering that wraps.  PPI like Prilosec, Wyeth’s Protonix and Nexium block the mechanism in stomach that releases the acids. The H2 blockers would help reducing production of the acids like Zantac 75, Pepcid and Axid AR. The dugs are mainly aimed for reduction of the stomach acid production in gastric systems.

Although these drugs can help relieving the pain for the short term cause, there are potential downsides of using the dugs in long run term.  These medications fail tackling underlying reflux problems and instead change chemical ingredients of refluxed gastric context. The GERD drugs could have countless unwanted side effects. As an alternative drug heartburn treatment, surgery makes heartburn cures. For prevention of the stomach acids from getting splashed in esophagus, surgeon would free the upper stomach parts and wrap around lower esophagus also suture itself. The main reason for undergoing this procedure is strengthening the valve between esophagus and stomach. It’s done for preventing refluxed stomach content coming in contact with esophagus. However, surgery would involve undergoing several risks and the side effects like swallowing problems, bloating, diarrhoea, abdominal cramping, nausea and many more. After the surgery the symptoms could occur again and over the time.

Coming to the downside of all conventional type of heartburn cures, it could be learnt that they mainly focus on treating the local GERD impairments. None of conventional type of treatments is actually aimed at tackling underlying causes which contribute to the acid reflux occurrence.

Are you aware of the natural holistic treatments which could possibly treat the heartburn also some other symptoms that are related to GRED simply by tackling all contributing factors? The holistic treatments make the only way to permanently reverse down the acid reflux also for preventing the reoccurrence. Holistic treatments make best of heartburn cures available.

Acid Reflux Disease: WHY You Have Heartburn

Gastro-esophageal acid reflux disease or GERD or heartburn is mainly the coincidence of two different medical conditions. The rearward flow of acid and food from the stomach to the esophagus is the main and first trigger for acid reflux disease. However acid reflux can also happen in most healthy people and in this case it is generally referred as physiologic gastroesophageal reflux. This usually does not result in the symptoms of acid reflux disease.

Causes for Acid Reflux

The other factor that triggers acid reflux disease is the malfunctioning of LES or the lower esophageal sphincter. This LES is basically a circle of muscles that act as the valve between the stomach and esophagus and measure 3 to 4 centimeters. In case of an acid reflux disease the contents of the stomach are pushed back to the esophagus as LES doesn’t shut properly and this is generally referred as the acid reflux disease.

Symptoms of Acid Reflux

The main symptom of acid reflux disease is heartburn which is the burning sensation in the throat or chest, when the contents of stomach are pushed back to the lining of esophagus. The normal feeling of acid reflux disease is constant heartburn. However occasional heartburn is also common and this does not necessarily mean to be acid reflux disease as it can be light reflux that can affect healthy individuals.

A few sufferers also feel the food being blocked with tightness and chocking sensation in the throat. It is basically the continual reverse flow of stomach content during contact with esophagus which causes this pain. This can also result in swelling of esophagus because of scars through histological damage. However some other acid reflux disease suffers also feel chest pain or can suffer from coughs, nausea, burning pains in the chest, lasting earache, vocal changes and swallowing problems. Some patients might also develop conditions called as Barrett’s esophagus in which the cells in the esophageal lining take on irregular colours and shapes. Especially among adults above 60 years old this can be the first stage for esophageal cancer.

Medical therapy and surgery are two main options available today for treating acid reflux disease. There are also treatment methods that include lifestyle and diet modifications with some herbal supplements to treat acid reflux disease. H2 blockers and PPIs are among the two main medical options for the cause of this acid reflux disease. Although you can use prescribed medications or some acid blockers like the above you should know that the results are usually not more than temporary and additionally these conventional medicines can also lead to adverse side effects.

Therefore this calls the need for holistic approach to treat acid reflux disease. You should remember that conventional medications and the OTC medications generally treat the symptoms and fail to cure the internal root causes of the disease. This holistic approach does just the opposite as it first finds out the main causes of the disease and applies an appropriate treatment that will not cause any side effects yet getting rid of the disease right from its root causes.

Heartburn Folk Remedies that Get RESULTS

It’s a fact. Even though sufferers must still observe a complete agenda of treatment to stop the internal condition that causes heartburn, there are many folk remedies that will significantly alleviate its symptoms. But will folk remedies help to prevent heartburn? For many victims of heartburn despairing over the ineffectiveness of conventional medicine (typically only providing temporary relief at the price of side effects), the question is whether folk remedies can have more effect.

Infrequent (perhaps once a week) heartburn may happen to anyone. Chronic heartburn however immediately raises the question of GERD - gastro esophageal reflux disease, also known simply as acid reflux. Heartburn, symptom of GERD, is as its name suggests, a burning pain in the esophagus just below the breastbone.

Usually, the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) opens only to let foodstuffs into the stomach and then shuts before stomach acid can reflux into the esophagus. It is when the LES activates randomly or fails to fully close, that acid splashes back into the esophagus, attacking the lining and triggering the burning sensation of heartburn, a symptom of GERD. GERD is really a mechanical problem. It is the weakness of the LES that encourages acid reflux up into the esophageal passage from the stomach.

The problem of the strength being sapped from the LES can come about for a number of reasons. Genetically inherited traits, bad sleep habits, obesity, stress and the wrong diet can all contribute. These are the real causes that must be treated rather than just the symptoms if lasting relief is to be achieved from heartburn. Because the weakness of the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) is a major trigger, just like the excess of acidity in the stomach, what must be targeted are the lifestyle, dietary and medical underlying causes. It should be noted that extra acidity can also be brought on not only by certain types of diet and lifestyle, but also by Candida infection.

Scientific studies done not long ago indicate that traditional remedies may well be effective. Folk remedies to deal with GERD have been in existence for much longer that modern medicinal treatments. Examples of traditional cures that have been found helpful in reduce heartburn are:

1. Lowering the foot of your bed. A 6 to 8 inches difference will limit the upward flow of gastric acid and spare your esophagus.

2. In order to position your esophagus to be higher than your stomach in bed, sleep on your left side. The disposition of the stomach (towards the left) and the esophagus entering it from the right will reduce the reflux of acid.

3. Because honey reduces inflammations in general, intake of a small amount of honey (in its natural state) will also bring alleviation to the esophagus. This is due to its antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

4. Green tea aids digestion and helps to restore the right acid/alkali balance. The effect is heightened with Ginseng.

5. Eat more but smaller meals per day. Smaller meals are easier to digest and allow you to eat more slowly, this decreasing any potential overload on your digestive system.

6. Drink water after you’ve finished one meal and before you begin the next one. Mineral water in particular can help to re-establish the acid alkaline balance in your digestive tract.

Remember however although that folk remedies may be good to reduce symptoms, they are just one part of a full, holistic plan which is what it takes to really treat and prevent heartburn.

Did anyone tell you about the real way to banish heartburn that causes you pain today and that could be gone tomorrow by the application of holistic, 100% natural remedies that also include traditional and effective folk cures?

About Me

How I Cured My Acid Reflux: Linda Evans’ Personal Story

Hi, my name is Linda Evans. I developed a severe and troublesome acid reflux condition about 10 years ago. Symptoms manifested during the day but mostly came at night while I was asleep. I would wake up suddenly with a mouth full of acid. The next day, aside from feeling horrible from the lost sleep, I used to experience a feeling similar to being poisoned.

Other related symptoms I experienced include but were not limited to: Pain and discomfort in the chest and upper abdomen, fullness in the stomach, nausea after eating, regurgitation, trouble swallowing, burping and chronic sore throat.

Throughout this time I was prescribed several medicines such as Prevacid that provided nothing more than a temporary relief. I also took over-the-counter antacids like Tums. I must’ve swallowed hundreds of bottles of the stuff. I tried many expensive GI health supplements but they only provided short-term relief. They certainly did not solve the problem.

Last year, I experienced a severe acid reflux attack and went to the emergency room. They doubled my Prevacid prescription and told me to avoid the usual foods I was already avoiding. I had an upper GI and Endoscopy performed. The physician read the results. The conclusion: I had Acid Reflux and he advised I should be on Prevacid for the rest of my life.

This was completely unacceptable. I already avoided the usual acid reflux triggering foods, I slept with my bed elevated at the head and I lay on my side, but the doubled up dose of Prevacid was no longer working! I was going out of my mind.

In my ‘quest for a cure’ I stumbled upon a website created by a nutritionist named Jeff Martin. He claimed to have suffered from acid reflux and digestive disorders for eleven years until he discovered a unique holistic solution for all types of acid reflux and digestive disorders. Based on his website it appeared Jeff was honest and knew what he was talking about. Anything was worth a shot at this point so I bought the book right away.

It is important to note that before I bought Jeff’s program, I tried numerous anti-reflux diets, took herbal supplements, tried Chinese medicine, reflexology, homeopathy remedies, Threelac — you name it — but nothing worked! If you’re having doubts, I can assure you that Jeff’s program is unlike anything you have ever seen.

I followed Jeff’s instructions step by step.

The results were almost instantaneous! After two days I felt a major relief. I was down to one Prevacid a day one week after I started the program. I was completely off Prevacid and Tums three weeks after.

I remember for the first several days that I actually felt worse because my body was going through such a cleansing process and the die-off effects started to manifest. But boy, was that ever rewarding. I was euphoric, just knowing that I was finally on the right path to recovery.

About 27 days into the program I was visibly healthier, my acid reflux and all its related symptoms were gone. It was the closet thing to a miracle that I have ever experienced.

Six weeks into the program, I had made a SIGNIFICANT progress. I felt rejuvenated, energized, happier and so much healthier.

I am a totally different person today. I have lots of energy. I have no acid reflux or any digestive disorders whatsoever. I sleep through the night. I wake up alert and full of life.

I’m so excited about my recovery that I want to share it with the world. I created this website just for that purpose.

Causes of Heartburn: Drill Down To The Real Reasons For Heartburn

Even if many popular information sources and the media suggest that aspects of lifestyle and eating particular foods are at fault, the real causative agents of heartburn are somewhat more numerous with genetic, lifestyle and dietary elements interlinked. Just like other chronic ailments, heartburn is a result of complex and many-dimensioned causes.

If heartburn happens twice per week or more frequently, a graver medical condition known as acid reflux disease may exist. This is also known as GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease). Even healthy people may experience heartburn up to once per week. Heartburn is the name for the sensation of burning or searing around the chest or throat. This frequently manifests itself after a meal.

A sphincter, the LES or Lower Esophageal Sphincter, should normally only open to let food and drink flow into the intestinal system and should not allow stomach contents to flow in the opposite direction. But in reflux situations, the LES is debilitated and stomach contents can reflux into the esophagus, damaging the cells in the wall lining and causing pain. GERD is the result of two physiological issues: the first is excess stomach acidity; and the second is the weakened sphincter (LES) which no longer functions correctly to cordon off the stomach from the esophagus.

As indicated earlier, several inter-linked factors make for a weak LES or excessive stomach acidity. These factors include:

1. Genetically inherited characteristics.

2. Lifestyles, where habits such as smoking ruins the digestion, attacks the immune system and aggravates Candida multiplication, which then leads to the disease of acid reflux. Stress from lack of sleep, emotional pressure or excess of work also provokes these problems.

3. Infections from Candida. When circumstances permit, Candida bacteria replicate fast and establish colonies all over the body. These microorganisms then ferment and are the causative agent for the rejection of digestive contents to be rejected back into the esophagus. This is when esophageal cells are then inflamed and degraded. Note that Candida is normally resident in the human body, especially in domains of the intestines and the genitals. Usually, Candida is kept in equilibrium by friendly bacteria with no negative corporal effect.

4. Diet patterns, intake of foods that are fatty or spicy and that debilitate the LES, or nutritive components that make digestion difficult can all boost existing acid reflux. Similarly, the regular and frequent ingestion of foods triggering acid production or levels, such as chocolate, peppermint, citrus fruits and tomatoes, also makes acid reflux more likely.

To cut out heartburn and to stop it from coming back, the root causes must be resolved. Whereas conventional treatments only superficially treat the symptoms, a holistic, all-natural approach gets to the real underlying causes to provide the only true safe and effective cure for acid reflux.

Severe Heartburn Means a Health THREAT

Find out more below about the reasons and what fast relief is possible

Heartburn can be very difficult to deal with - both painful and tiring. People in general get some level of heartburn. Medical records suggest that most individuals get occasional heartburn sooner or later in life. However many of these heartburn outbreaks vanish afterwards or can be banished with the help of a minimum of medication. Severe heartburn is notification of a more dangerous illness known in medical circles as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Here, classical medicine is frequently unsatisfactory in bringing any net benefit for serious heartburn cases.

What is the real, underlying problem?

The debilitation or the malfunctioning of the sphincter separating the gastric and esophageal cavities means that stomach matter with acid travels back into the esophagus. Esophageal ulcers then come about because of the corroding by the acidic digestive juices. The causal basis of the problem is therefore typically the one-way muscular valve or sphincter whose normal role is to be a barrier between the stomach and the esophagus. In severe cases, a condition that is preliminary to cancer and referred to by doctors as Barrett’s esophagus can occur, and makes immediate medical attention imperative.

Other problematical factors of heartburn

It is sometimes incorrectly identified as asthma, which makes the situation that much more, complicated. This is because if the backward reflux of acid contents reaches the upper part of the esophagus, then the result may be fits of wheezing, hoarseness and drive coughing.

Which people are more likely to get heartburn?

There are a number of medical scenarios that will raise the probabilities of grave heartburn. These scenarios comprise hernias and diabetes as well as abusive eating, such as excessive fast food. Auto immune system instabilities such as Raynaud Phenomenon, sceloderma and the CREST syndrome can all degrade the situation further.

The appropriate heartburn cure

Because they do not take into consideration the long term causes, and may even have serious drawbacks when they are taken, conventional medicines may even worsen the situation. And as most medications prescribed by physicians target only the symptoms of heartburn, they only really have a role to play in short term relief.

Recent studies have shown that correct diets, a healthy lifestyle and a holistic attitude which may include herbs and vitamins supplements are what is required for permanent relief to serious heartburn related to GERD. It is also helpful to limit or avoid intake of food that is fatty, high in caffeine, high in alcohol content, in chocolate, mint or sherbet, as well as eating less acid-oriented food such as tomatoes and orange, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage.

What is Acid Reflux? Symptoms, Causes and Treatments

Most patients do not really understand what acid reflux is. Research done recently demonstrates that in the developed world one in five people approximately endure symptoms related to acid reflux, also known as GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) once a week, while an additional one in five suffer from the discomfort, even pain of these symptoms at least every month. Up to 40 per cent of those people suffer every day from gastro esophageal reflux disease related symptoms. So what is Acid reflux? Acid reflux is the condition where stomach juices with acid flow back (reflux) from the stomach to the esophagus.

What are the local causes of acid reflux?

Gastro esophageal reflux disease happens when the lower esophageal sphincter (the name for the circle of muscle that is the valve between the stomach and the esophagus) does not shut correctly and lets stomach juices be thrown back up, or reflux, into the esophagus. When the esophagus lining is impacted by these juices, this produces the burning sensation in the chest and/or the throat, which is called heartburn.

Although it seems strange, heartburn may also be symptomatic of too little stomach acid. The level of stomach acid has to be enough for digestion to be effective, and prevent the stomach from being obliged to work much harder for the food to be digested. In time, the extra effort of the stomach can lead to acid reflux happening.

As well as the immediate factors leading to gastro esophageal reflux disease, there are also genetic factors (beyond our control) and several other internal factors and cofactors, that make for a context encouraging GERD. A long-term solution can only come from treating the internal factors primarily responsible for causing GERD.

What do symptoms of acid reflux look like?

Note that sometimes GERD can happen in the absence of any symptoms. Diagnosis of acid reflux is typically done according to a recurring (every three days or more) manifestation of heartburn. Healthy people get occasional heartburn as well, and this alone does not mean that you have an acid reflux condition. Yet others experience a sensation of food lodged in their throat or choking or stricture. Symptoms may differ for some GERD patients, such as chest pains, breakfast hoarseness or problems in swallowing. Recurrent dry coughs are also symptoms for this last group of patients.

What Are the Dangers of Acid Reflux?

Neglected GERD can have not only unpleasant, perhaps painful symptoms, but can also generate grave complications. Firstly, tissue damage scars can cause constriction of the esophagus and problems in swallowing. Secondly, gastric acid can inflame the esophagus over time to lead to ulcers or bleeding. Thirdly, some victims can develop a condition where cells in the lining of the esophagus take on abnormal shapes and colors, a condition known as Barrett’s esophagus. Protracted Barrett’s esophagus may result in cancer, notably for adults who are more than 60 years old.

Possible solutions for acid reflux

Treating gastro esophageal reflux disease can be done in one of three ways: a surgical operation; prescription or over-the-counter medicaments; and holistic therapy, using dietary and lifestyle changes, detox, and specific herbal supplements. In very many cases, gastro esophageal reflux disease can be resolved and stopped by natural solutions, avoiding the dangers of surgical treatment or prescribed medicaments. This holistic approach to GERD is also confirmed by a review of recent research that indicates that acid reflux is a medical condition provoked mostly by factors of diet, lifestyle and behavior.

So what is acid reflux? Seen in the context of conventional medicine that compares it to other similar recurring conditions, acid reflux is to be treated by constantly ingesting drugs, antacids and over the counter medicament that only bring temporary relief.

Seen from the holistic viewpoint, gastroesophageal reflux disease is the warning sign for a major lack of internal balance that must be resolved. Alternative treatments for acid reflux therefore (homeopathic programs, herbal remedies, diet and lifestyle modifications and detoxification), by treating the deep internal cause of GERD, are implicitly superior compared to conventional answers that only bring superficial relief.
